Distribution:  Common across UK.

Habitat:  Found in sunny sites.

Description:  Native biennial/perennial of medium height with white flowers from May to September. 

Uses:  The root has been used to produce a soap substitute for washing clothes, by simmering it in water.

Wildlife:  Food plant of the Campion, Marbled Clover and Marbled Coronet Moths.

 

Sowing Instructions for Seeds for Best Results:  Sow seed in spring in a greenhouse or cold frame. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out into individual pots.  Plant the seedlings out into their final position in summer.
