Wild
Flower Calendar Winter Aconites and Snowdrops will be finishing their show this month or next at the latest. Daisies will continue to flower this month, and the Wild Daffodil and Primroses make their appearance. Wild Daffodils, Winter Aconites and Snowdrops 'In the Green' will be available in late January along with many other native bulbs. Dry bulbs will be available later in the summer although there will be a facility on our web pages to pre-order them in July. Click here to look at our Native Bulb Pages for more details. Meadow Mixes for creating a Wild Flower Meadow can be sown later this month. They can be sown in the autumn (August to October) or Spring (February to May), but on heavy clay soils it is be best to sow in Spring as water-logging may cause some seed/seedlings to rot during the Winter. Wild
Flower Seeds which are best sown in Spring can be sown later this
month. Some wild flower seeds will germinate
easily, but others can take longer. This is one of the cheapest
and easiest ways to provide flowering nectar plants for the
garden. Try one of our Continue to provide food and water for the birds, particularly during cold spells. It is a good time to put up nesting boxes which garden birds will use during the Spring. If you have any larger perennial wild flower plants, they can be divided this month eg Greater Knapweed, Oxeye Daisies, Yarrow. Although wild and species roses don't need to be hard -pruned, they may benefit from a tidy up this month eg Field Rose, Sweet Briar, Dog Rose, Burnet Rose. Here are some February Wild Flowers that we currently stock seeds, plug plants or bulbs for. Click on the photograph to buy seeds and where plugs are also available they will be indicated on the seed catalogue pages. |
